Rabbi Abraham Assor (Tanger, 24 Elul, 5680 - Lisbon, 30 Tishrei, 5754) Z”L , a prominent figure in the Jewish community of Lisbon, where he was a spiritual leader for about fifty years. Born in Tangier, he completed his studies at the city's yeshiva, where his teacher was the Great Sage R. Yehuda Azancot Z”L . He came to Portugal in April 1944 at the invitation of the Jewish community of Lisbon.
His style was widely recognized for its approachability and dialogue, being described in colloquial terms and from family memory as: a decisive and affectionate figure; he acted as a pillar of faith, unity, and comfort for the Lisbon community and also for all communities in Portugal.
Deeply connected to the community and its history, and although he arrived in Lisbon in his early twenties, he always remained faithful to his deep Tangier roots.
In addition to liturgical services, he assumed an educational and spiritual guidance role, being a communicator who bridged the gap between Orthodox tradition and daily life in Portugal.
Known for being a man of dialogue, building friendly (interfaith) bridges and revered for his unwavering path of faith.
 Rabbi Abraham Assor was the voice and heart of the Jewish community of Lisbon in the second half of the 20th century, a firm, approachable, and wise religious leader.
